I recently bought this 1978 kenmore belt drive Washer from a thrift store and it has some heavy use but not as bad as you think the tub is clean the outside is dent and scratch free it has nice thick porcelain. It does have minor rust underneath but it runs and does a load of laundry good my concern is it makes a scrapping noise as it agitates but it stops once it spins . What can that noise be ?

Scraping noise

Remove and clean the snubber pad and the plate it rests on.

Is it worth it

If I dig into it more will I be asking for more trouble than what it's worth? I would hate to ruin seals and bearings if I tear into this machine to stop the scraping noise or will it not affect anything to fix the problem . Ony because it's so old .
