Hi all,

I know from researching on this site that Maytag washers became very problematic but so far I don't know which models this washer/dryer set are. This set is available to me locally but I haven't had a response from the owner yet.

I'm wondering if you eagle-eyed folk can tell just by these minimal pics what model line or approximate vintage they are? I'm not wanting to get them if they will be a headache because I am buying them to do 4-5 loads weekly. They are cheap but if they don't work well it's not worth the trouble to haul home and install.

Thanks for any input you can provide. Sorry I don't have better or more pics.

BTW, I originally posted here as girlnextdoor 6 months ago. But I seem to have the wrong password, and I've requested it multiple times but haven't received it. So I had to make a new profile.

I’m not sure about the model numbers but I do know they were made between 1990 and 1993. That is a very good approximation. These were good machines and appear to be in good condition just judging by the pictures. With the serial numbers the exact month and year of manufacture can be determined.

The white agitator indicates the washer is a direct drive model.  This means the agitation strokes are shorter and faster than on the pitman type transmission that Maytag used for a few decades until 1987, but the direct drive transmission proved very reliable, and these days is likely easier to repair and/or find parts for.

The washer also appears to have the large tub.  If you're able to test that the machines work properly and you don't see any oil or water leaks under the washer, they're probably OK.

I don't think I'd pay more than $250 for the pair even in top condition.

It's not direct-drive.  Orbital transmissions are belt-drive exactly the same as the pitman-style.  The gearing in the orbital transmission is what changes the agitation stroke.

Yes, of course, I stand corrected.  I meant orbital transmission.

I get the two confused because they both provide the short stroke agitation that I don't care for.  But, given the choice, I'd opt for Maytag's orbital over WP's direct drive any day.

Well, someone else emailed before me and bought them, so no luck on this purchase.

But thank you so much for the help, I do appreciate it!
