Hi All,

I installed my new speed Queen washer last night. It is front loader with rear controls, 2018 model AFNE9RSP115TW01. All packing bolts removed, feet tightened as rubber shoes put on, and a level on top placed in different orientations shows that the unit is level. So I was excited to run it and threw in a load of towels. Some squeaking and drum bouncing whenever the unit began to spin that lasted until a faster speed was reached. Is this normal. Do you think the unit improperly balanced despite the level readings being okay? This is my first home, first new washer purchase and install.

Thank you!

Congratulations On Your New SQ FL Washer

I would keep using it for a while and see if the noise persists and under what type of loads it dose it, I dough it has anything to do with being level.

These are HD no nonsense washers and are not the quietest machines you will ever experience, for example some knocking in the shocks is normal as the machine speeds up and slows down.

My 14 year-old Maytag Neptune front loader will sometimes make me think the tub is going to bang itself out of the cabinet at lower spin speeds or walk the machine across the room, but it always smooths out nicely into a quiet top speed spin.

I think it has been mentioned here before that SQ front loaders don't go through the seemingly endless balancing act that most other makes of front loaders infamously do.  My Neptune doesn't mess around with balancing either.  I'm wondering if your new washer makes the noise it does by design (although a squeak seems abnormal unless it's a spring doing it), and the trade off is cycles that are completed when they should be, as opposed to running an extra 30 minutes trying in vain to balance loads.

Thank you both for the replies. It certainly sounded like a spring related noise - it followed the rhythm of the bounce, not unlike a bed but quieter.

I have a 2017 Speed Queen front load washer and dryer set. I wish I would have listened to Combo52 from the git-go. These machines do a balance sequence, and they will at first make some rubber squeaking noises when agitation comes to a stop, along with some vibration until it reaches a higher spin speed. Also, don't be suprised if you hear a hollow knocking noise when ramping up spin or ramping down from a spin while they are new.

I thought something was wrong, and I had a tech replace some stuff, and he messed some stuff up. Senior tech came out, replaced some items, made it right, and the noise came back after almost the same amount of loads. So I gritted my teeth and listened to Combo52's advice. This guy knows his stuff!

After several more loads, the hollow knocking started to subside, and since March of this year, it is smooth and quiet, but make no mistake, if there is a somewhat unbalanced load, this machine won't ding dong around balancing, it will get the job done unless the out of balance switch trips.
