1966 LKM Washer, and 1965 Non LKM Dryer

combo52's profile picture
The dryer is TOL in features except for the lack of a full width hamper door, it is a rare model.

The washer is the first of the key board LKM washers, these were built though 1975. There were 5 different style LKM washers that used this basic keyboard design.

John is right, I've NEVER seen a dryer like that with the plug door.  Features like that were always accompanied with the full-width door.

In fact, all the 800 dryers from that year that I've ever seen were all timed dry Soft Heat and either had plug door or full-width door.

Interesting how they separate cycles for "Delicate Fabricx" (slow agitation) and "Fragile Fabrics" (extra-slow agitation). Aren't "delicate" and "fragile" synonyms?

Delicate and Fragile Fabrics

combo52's profile picture

Delicate items are usually machine washable, fragile fabrics are usually labeled ; hand wash only, and should only be washed in a very gentile washer, this leaves out any attempt to wash said item in a regular 2 speed DD WP or a Maytag DC machine for example.

Nice set

My friend Glenna D. had that exact model washer, with the matching LK dryer.

One of my cousins had a dryer like pictured, except with a different control panel. It wouldn't surprise me if the one shown was a special catalog model, featured in one of their sale books that came out twice a year.

Delicate textiles - Lacy and dainty things such as ladies undergarments, blouses, baby things, etc...

Fragile textiles - curtains (especially lace), items that have been well used and laundered previously to point of having tender areas (if not outright holes), some bed and table linen, heirloom linen.

Curtains are most always considered "fragile" due to effects of prolonged sunlight exposure. The item(s) may seem strong enough when taken down, but once in the wash the only thing that was holding them together (hope) sometimes goes; and things just fall apart.

Many commercial laundries routinely advise customers sending in window treatments of the above, and or request a waiver be signed acknowledging such facts. Indeed if you read TOS for many dry cleaners, laundries, etc.. they state will not be held liable (or limited) for damage to tender/fragile items.

Personally wouldn't put any "fragile" textile into a top loader with central beater, but that's just me. In fact am loathe to use most H-axis machines as well, but they are a better option IMHO.

I think decades ago, the Salvation Army near my community college that I attended, I had seen that exact same dryer, t(though I’m trying to remember if it had that such a narrower door) right next to a slightly-plainer washer, of which really just lacked the fluorescent light, the dryer had, both in Avocado...

I even envisioned buying that set, if only I was in my home-buying stage, that still hasn’t quite materialized...

(And there was also a General Electric Americana washer, in all its TOL-goodness, also in Avocado, there, too!)
