I just posted a new issue of Electrical Merchandising (Nov 1954) into the Ephemera Library. What really caught my attention in this issue was a double page ad for the Hotpoint Automatic Washer. It shows it having a window lid!!! I have never seen any other picture or evidence of a window lid ever being put into a Hotpoint washer before. I wonder if this ever made it to market like this? Not that a Hotpoint automatic needs a window lid as there is no safety switch and it's not a particularly splashy machine overall, but interesting none the less.

It looks like a round window. Maybe they were thinking about ways to use up the round windows from their first dryer doors.

No it's actually square Tom, similar to 1965-1975 Frigidaire window lids, the Hotpoint has a big chrome trim around the window as well.

Window Lid Hotpoint

That's unique - we had a Hotpoint from that era and the lid was removable. That would be a very rare find! Anyone have more info on those Laundry Queen automatics?

Not only do I spot that windowed-Hotpoint lid, it looks like it doesn’t lie flat (a la Kenmore) either...!

I don't recall ever seeing a window lid on a Hotpoint. I guess the ones I knew of, back in the day, were too basic.

Even the TOL set I remember seeing in about 1971 or so did not have a window lid although the competing Frigidaire did.
