Wow! That 3rd agitator looks like it would demolish some stuff on High agitation speed! I do remember the 2nd one on a machine I had in the 90s. |

The dual action agitator is one of the best out there. All those one piece ones came with the bottom of the barrel washers. |

Yes Agreed Martin and Eugene, The DAA was the best thing that ever happened to traditional TL washers [ If Wringer Washers Were Built Today They Would Even Have DAAs ]
While the older one piece agitators were often neat to look at and fun to watch work with light loads the DAAs were just much better performing and easier on the clothing [ Even on the MTDC washers the best thing that ever happened to them was the Load-Sensor Agitator with the shorter stroke orbital transmission that didn't DRAG your clothing from hell and back while trying to turn it over ]
In any event Shane have fun trying different agitators in your washer, there are at least 15 different agitators that will fit your machine.

oh I have to agree with Vern, the larger fins coupled with a slower speed agitation will give excellent fabric care....
and handle larger loads with ease.....

Also, would my existing agitator bolt work to attach any of these agitators, or would I need to order a different one? i.e. different length or something? |

Yes it will fit and work. It was made for the smaller capacity direct drive machines. The action on small loads and possibly medium will be good, but on a full load it won’t be very effective at all. Same bolt will work. This looks like one of the agitators that the top half pops off and there is a manual lint filter to clean inside.

My grandparents had an agitator just like the one pictured in an early 1990’s Roper extra large capacity (standard not super capacity). You could pull the whole top part of the agitator out to clean the lint filter that was made on to the bottom of the top part while the base stayed bolted in the machine. The holes in the side were what ran the water through the filter due to agitation. I think I only saw one other one than theirs that was built this way. There was also a two piece like this one but did not have a filter and the bolt went through the top part not allowing it to be removed. Their machine looked almost exactly like this Estate model.

only reason I knew of these was my aunt bought one of the first Design2000 machines, around the end of 1983
I got to install this for her....was just a unique design that came out.... this unit also had the spin drain....which I thought was odd from a Whirlpool.....of course later the neutral drain was returned to the lineup... plus that barrel mounted lint filter that lifted off to clean.... but did notice her clutch wore out rather quickly.... the belt drive versions were still around, as I got a Whirlpool Supreme Series set not long after in 1984.... when the Dual Actions were available for these, it was still a five vane base, but the fins were tapered down a bit... |

If you have one of the versatile KM DD washers with the fabric speed selector I would differently keep the original agitator, using the original agitator on high speed not only cleans better and handles and turns over a large load better than the KA agitator on medium so you have better options because you have three usable speeds for agitation.
The main reason KA washers used the larger agitator and medium speed was noise and it was a little gentler than high speed on your KM, but it does not clean as well. Most of our customers with this KM washer use the medium speed agitation and fast spin speed.
