This will be an ongoing thread as I find parts substitutions for bearings, seals, gaskets, bushings, etc for the Pulsamatic and Multimatic transmissions ...
I am in the middle of rebuilding 2 Multimatic transmissions and as I go about finding and fitting new parts to replace NLA parts I will document it here .... because I know I'll never remember the cross references, LOL
#1 Top Spin Bearing
old part number = 5431059
fits 1957-58 Pulsamatics AND 1959-64 Multimatics
new part # found to be exact replacement = 60062RS , $4.00 ebay
pro's of new bearing = permanently sealed, else
rubber seal can be removed if not wanted.
May help keep water out if tub seal fails.
-------------------------------
#2 Upper Housing Seal
old part number = 5431063
fits 1957-58 Pulsamatics AND 1959-64 Multimatics
new part # found to be exact replacement = 40x62x10mm , $2.75 ebay
Manuf = DPH
pro's of new seal = the sealing lip is higher than original, which means it will ride on fresh area of spin shaft
-------------------------------
#3 Housing Gaskets - 2 places used
old part number = 5433963
fits 1957-58 Pulsamatics AND 1959-64 Multimatics
new part # = 9700K11 - Square-Profile Buna-N O-Ring Cord Stock 3/32 Fractional Width, 0.103" Actual Width, 3 ft, $1.80
purchased thru McMaster-Carr
cut to size, use dab of RTV to seal ends after install
-------------------------------
#4) Large and small motor pulleys - center bearings.
Fits 1957-58 Pulsamatics AND 1959-64 Multimatics, both single speed and multiple speed mechanisms.
old bearing part number = nice 7236
new part # found to be exact replacement = 16162RS , $2.00 ebay
pro's of new bearing = permanently sealed with synthetic grease. Old style bearing seal was a metal dust shield and didn't hold grease in place like the new rubber seals. You can use a hammer and socket to remove and replace the bearing, but easier if you have access to a shop press.
