I bit the bullet the other day and bought us a new GE Profile induction stove to replace the actually trusty KA which while working fine was looking rather unsightly. As you can see in the pics all the discoloration around the vent on the backsplash and over the door.. Being plastic or plasticky paint, trying to clean that off resulted in the paint coming off. And I never liked the glass cooktop. I bought it 2nd hand when we moved here about 12 year ago to replace the similar new one we left in Calgary,, though that one had a much better and easier to clean coil top.. And okay.. I also wanted a new stove as well
I shopped around looking for a free standing induction with actual dials but it seems those have gone the way of the dodo along with the particular Samsung that had 3 induction burners and one regular burner. There was a relatively inexpensive Frigidaire model but everything about it felt cheap, the controls, the drawer underneath felt extremely tinny so I passed on that one.. I saw this GE Profile at the Home Depot but it wasn't on sale and when I checked online it popped up at a store in London 60 mi away at a significant savings. I took that price to Lowes and they said they would beat that price by 10 percent and I'd get airmiles so I ordered from them Unfortunately this model was discontinued so they couldn't get one which left me ordering it from the London retailer.. They gave me a good deal on the 4 year extended warranty as well so it's now covered for 5 years.. I like it.. the glass top has no frame around it so there's nowhere for dirt to dig in. I haven't tried baking anything in the oven yet. It has steam and regular cleaning cycles. Also has the wifi connect so you can control the oven remotely from your phone.. that will never happen here. I'd be scared to death starting the oven when I wasn't home. Can't believe how fast this thing heats up a pan, particularly on the big burner, water is boiling in no time.. I think it's 3800 watts. And being able to put paper towels under your pots and pans while cooking is neat , it saves scratching the glass. On the downside it has no outlets on the panel (they're still legal here but disappearing). I'll miss those because I did use them on the KA. There's no backsplash lighting and probably the most missed, is there's no probe for the oven.. I didn't use that a lot but it was handy for roasts and worked well. |

How exciting, can't wait to hear how you like using it once you've had some experience with it. Everyone I know, including our Bob, tells me they love induction cooking. John L has been singing induction-cooking praises for a couple of decades now.
I've been drooling over this induction GE for a couple of years now. The discontinued model was on clearance at our local appliance mart a couple of months ago for $699 (I know, right?) but I don't need a range and didn't bite. Has it been 12 years since you moved? Wow. Seems like just last week! Enjoy the new, beautiful range. |

$699 gasp.. I'd have bought a dozen LOL. I paid a little over twice that but this is Canada after all.. So far I'm loving it. The Frigidaire one was much less expensive at about $1000 but it really did feel flimsy. There was also another Frigidaire slide in with front controls which I was humming and hawing over and it was quite feature laden including a probe , BUT.. the surround of the control panel was all black plastic and butted up over the front of the glass cooktop and I'd read online reviews where people had put down a hot pan touching it and it melted.. You'd have to be very careful and accidents can eventually happen, so no on that one. There were also complaints on the Frigidaire about a noisy fan blowing air out the vents over the top of the door.. The induction fan in this GE makes little to no noise.. I was actually wondering if its working or not but it is.. blows out at the back I think. Heres a pic of the Frigidaire with the plastic melty surround

Congratulations! I hope you love it!
A couple of years ago, we had to replace the slide-in Roper that came with our house. We went with GE also, although not induction. I wish we had more time and energy to get more creative with our cooking, but we're just pretty basic. So far, it hasn't been bad to keep clean. But, it is only two years old, and we don't let it get filthy. So it's more maintenance basically. Barry
