I've noticed the last few weeks the stores have gotten a lot busier. Last weekend went to the mall and the lot was fairly busy, even Sears had a good number of cars. Couldn't find a parking spot hardly at Walmart and restaurants were busy as well. I guess the change to November marks the start of shopping.

I've never been to those early sales on Black Friday. Has anyone else? I prefer to stay out of the crowds. I like older things better like many of us, so there isn't much of a sale that is going to get me up that early to buy something made in China.

I wonder if Black Friday will be as busy this year? It seems like they have stretched it out more in recent years which makes me think it is a passing thing. Yet some still like to go out for the "traditional" Black Friday. I prefer to sleep late.

Black Friday

After years of trying to buy a decent artificial Christmas tree after the holidays, we went to Home Depot on Black Friday and had a vast choice at reasonable cost. Usually the best ones never last to make a post-holiday sale.

Definitely a mixed bag.

 

Some stuff is always leftovers that didn't move or special cheap Black Friday versions.

 

But there are legitimate deals too.  That $299 Amana washer that went up to $399 for a long time can now be had for $348.  Just one thing I noticed right off the bat.

 

I got a great deal from Sears on my 24" wall oven many years ago during a November sale when it was 50% off.  This was a legitimate deal as I had been watching them for many months before.

We don't get the newspaper anymore, so I didn't end up with the big pile of Black Friday ads this year. I had a look at the Sears ad online. Didn't see anything particularly low priced. Some of the appliances seemed to be about $100 off maybe.

Looks like most stores are running pre Black Friday sales these days, so the "deals" are more spread out.

Of course I imagine there are still those that like to go on Black Friday for just the tradition. I don't really like the crowds though.

Appliances have really gone up in price.

 

I paid $330 for a 24" manual clean wall-oven from Sears back in November 2010.

 

I just looked now and lowest price I found for a similar 24" wall oven was $800 (from anywhere.)
