Note how the turkey truly looks real. From the stand point that it doesn't look like today's enormous breasted birds.

Take that picture and put it side by each to a modern bird and I think you'll notice a difference.

Do what to a bird back then ? Hormones ? Anti biotics ? Why that's unheard of. Inject it with what ?

That bird looks more like a Goose the today's birds.

Which is why I would rather buy Organic than traditionally raised. ( CAFO )

TANG?

philcobendixduo's profile picture
Well, I grew up drinking TANG orange drink for breakfast every day but I've NEVER heard of "TANG" pork in a can (rather like "Spam" maybe?)!
I preferred TANG orange drink to real orange juice as I didn't care for the pulp in orange juice.
Now, I can buy "no pulp" REAL orange juice (which I DO).

Tang-can be used for other things-I used to use it as vanilla ice cream topping-try it-its good! Also used it as a mix in for my milkshakes. My Dad took us camping at our summer cottage one weekend----He got the idea of mixing some Tang in the pancake batter---It was HORRIBLE---NOT a good use for Tang-used it at the camp for our OJ-was convenient for that at the camp.

I just had to make a couple of my dumb comments...how "exclusive" can a men's club be that serves canned hash, even if it's in a fancy dish...and what are those strange things in the  Del Monte catsup (ketchup) ad, Croak-ettes?

Those strange things in the Del Monte Catsup ad are Croquettes, and they were popular in the 50’s. I recall that the Crisco cans used to have recipes for them on the label.

They were made with leftover roasted meat, like roast beef or ham and the meat was either ground or finely chopped and mixed with a thick white sauce. Usually they also contained some finely chopped onion, salt pepper and whatever other seasoning that may have come to mind. They were then shaped like bad mitten birds, rolled in dry bread or cracker crumbs and deep fried.

My Mom made them a few times and they were very tasty, kind of like a treat as opposed to having hash made with leftover roast beef, which is also very good if made properly. But I wouldn’t touch that canned crap with a ten foot fork.

If my mom was out of Bisquick she made her own. 9 cups flour, 2 cups shortening (most likely lard in the 50's) and 1/4 cup baking powder. Blend together and store in tight container.
