Hello gang , I came across a free Maytag washer on Craigslist the owner says it is broken in the add and he gave it to me free I have yet to figure out what is wrong with it .My hopes we're to use this as a parts bin for my 1978 Maytag washer , my dilemma is what if I were to find out this washer I got for free turns out to be a very easy fix and it wouldn't be worth using it as parts and I can have 2 Maytag vintage washers?? Or should I still use it for parts for my other Maytag washer ?? What would you do?

Here is a picture of the Maytag I got for free. I will try to troubleshoot it and save it for regular use if it works. For free I couldn't pass it up it's a common Maytag nothing special but it's Vintage! Thanks

Thanks guys , I hooked it up last night just to see where to start with it. To my surprise it works !! Besides the fact it needs new hoses for the pump and fill hose . It leaks from those worn out hoses she needs a good cleaning and some lubrication. The Motor is good . I ran her through a Short cycle no crazy sounds it quite. I think the guy didn't know that these old Maytag washers have a 3minute delay between cycles he probably thought it was not working and decided to give it away as a broken washer.

On my A712 a faint ticking can be heard from the timer between cycles. But as mentioned more like one minute, not three. 90's era MT's were 7 seconds I believe. |

My Mom's first (and last) automatic washer was an A208S purchased in 1976. The machine is still in use for the person who purchased the house in 2017.
You have a great addition to your collection. And yes those timer motors get louder as they age.
