Hello gang , I came across a free Maytag washer on Craigslist the owner says it is broken in the add and he gave it to me free I have yet to figure out what is wrong with it .My hopes we're to use this as a parts bin for my 1978 Maytag washer , my dilemma is what if I were to find out this washer I got for free turns out to be a very easy fix and it wouldn't be worth using it as parts and I can have 2 Maytag vintage washers?? Or should I still use it for parts for my other Maytag washer ?? What would you do?

See if it's an easy fix.

Here is a picture of the Maytag I got for free. I will try to troubleshoot it and save it for regular use if it works. For free I couldn't pass it up it's a common Maytag nothing special but it's Vintage! Thanks

either way, its win/win....

keep us posted once you figure out what is wrong with it....

people toss out machines for many simple reasons....most times it was just a lid switch issue...

Works

Thanks guys , I hooked it up last night just to see where to start with it. To my surprise it works !! Besides the fact it needs new hoses for the pump and fill hose . It leaks from those worn out hoses she needs a good cleaning and some lubrication. The Motor is good . I ran her through a Short cycle no crazy sounds it quite. I think the guy didn't know that these old Maytag washers have a 3minute delay between cycles he probably thought it was not working and decided to give it away as a broken washer.

well, that's wonderful....you have a back up spare, for use, or parts....never a bad thing....

but 3 minute delay?.....usually these only have a minute between changes....its possible, but seemed awful long....

I liked the rapid advance timers of 80's models....

There is something wrong there.  The delay before shifting into drain/spin should be 45 seconds to 1 minute on the normal cycle.

It was a ball park figure probably just a minute between cycle advances , important thing it works I'm going to tear it down and clean it up has rust on the bottom and sides

old Maytag washers have a 3minute delay between cycles

On my A712 a faint ticking can be heard from the timer between cycles.

But as mentioned more like one minute, not three. 90's era MT's were 7 seconds I believe.

Nice washer

My Mom's first (and last) automatic washer was an A208S purchased in 1976. The machine is still in use for the person who purchased the house in 2017.
You have a great addition to your collection. And yes those timer motors get louder as they age.
