They're reasonably good for the most part. Have a few quirks like any other machine ... and numerous detractors on this board, like any other machine, LOL. The washer design is clever and mechanically simple, but somewhat electronically complex. The topload dryer is clever, but mechanically elaborate compared to traditional designs. I have four washers: one GWL08 (1999) agitator toploader, two IWL12 (2004/2005) agitator toploaders, one 2009/2010 AquaSmart HE/impeller model ... all in good working order. One 2010-ish agitator toploader that's a mess. I have three of the topload dryers: two in fine working order, the other (with the 2010-ish washer) needs attention. There are two discussions with pictures on disassembling the dryer in this section of the board, one earlier this year and one several years ago. Which specific models do you have? Beware that the pump in-common to many of the agitator models is no longer available, other than stock that may be on-hand (if any can be found) and used specimens via eBay. I'll be out on a family trip for a few days so won't respond further until later into the weekend. |

Correction, I have five washers (serial year/month) listed in order of acquisition: - 1999 GWL08 SmartDrive (nephew & his GF-to-be-wife-next-May are using it) - 2004/June IWL12 Intuitive Eco - 2005/April GWL11 Eco Smart that I changed to an IWL12 console (mother is using it as of a few months ago) - 2009/June WL37T26DW2 LED AquaSmart that I changed to a WL37T26CW2 LCD AquaSmart console - 2008/April WA37T26G Eco Smart (no W2) on it Dryers (serial year/month) listed in order of acquisition: - 1999 DE04 (which is a GE frontload clone) - 2004/July DEGX1 SmartLoad (mother is using it as of several weeks ago) - 2010/March DE62T27D LED AeroSmart that I changed to a DE62T27C LCD AeroSmart console - 2009/August DE62T27G SmartLoad RE pump swapping ... the newer SmartPump won't substitute to older machines that take the discontinued Selni pump. Selni is 120v (for U.S. models *except* GWL10 which is 230v) and not reversible (requires a separate powered diverter valve for recirculate vs. drain). SmartPump (which debuted on AquaSmart but I believe the current agitator model also uses it) is 325v, 3-phase, and reversible for recirculate vs. drain (does not involve a separate diverter valve assembly). The older motor boards can't operate a SmartPump. |

I have another question, do you know why the top loading dryer was discontinued? too many issues? Curious to know! |
