Hi Friends,

Finally began cleaning the oven on my early 60's turquoise Magic Chef stove. Attempted lighting the pilot, but it didn't take. I then noticed that turning the gas knob for the oven didn't seem to produce anything so I think I may have tripped the safety with my lighter? (The oven-gas worked before)

This unit had been used with propane so I knew I'd have to adjust the pilot height (this was easy with the burner-pilots) -- which I believe may be the set screw that I've pointed out in this photo. Anyway, that didn't do the trick, but maybe I turned it the wrong way and THEN tripped the safety?

Not even sure if i'm trying to light the right thing, at this point. Any ideas?

Oven Pilot problems

Unscrew the aluminum tube going to the pilot assembly and see if gas comes out, if so the pilot is clogged.

There is no safety device that you could have tripped with your lighter.

John is right

When you turn on the oven, the pilot increases in size which heats the safety, which turns on the gas, there is no manual safety.
