Sounds like what my A407 would do in the first spin cycle after 30 seconds 50% of the time. Would shut off like the power was cut and wouldnt restart. If I tapped the timer knob it would restart and be fine the rest of the wash. Turned out to be a burned contact in the timer and I had to find a used timer to cure it.

the timer was still making that whirring sound when the washer cut out and did not drain all the water and spin. the timer went on almost to the end of the wash cycle without anything happening so I stopped it turned the dial back to the spin cycle to hopefully drain all that water in the tub it took a couple times to finally drain again and go into spin. I will try this tip you suggest anything to help me out I'd really hate to junk this washer .thank y
