Yes, the DRUM is literally suspended:

I find that on, while the poor "can", visible right from the street is off in darkness, left in its own sad, incandescent-obsolescence...

So what will I need to do as a few houses I've seen wi this same lighting problem have a single fixture doing the work of both, even getting the two separate lights switches to do the work turning it on and off in the two different areas of the kitchen????

Yes, here are other fixtures I have to utilize adding to gain the right amount of light:

We just put in some flush mount round LED ceiling lights in the laundry room and the upstairs hallway that really put out some bright white light,, what a difference compared to the old original fixtures of the house circa 1958. They weren't very expensive either .. maybe $15-$20 Canadian at that LOL.. We got them at either Lowes or Home Depot and look sort of like this, but not these ones... There are no bulbs in them so I guess when they go you toss them which hopefully wont be for many many many years so they say

I got some small round LED lights, that can be mounted to a recessed can or a regular ceiling box. They're meant to look like a recessed light trim. kit I was going to put them in the closets to replace the porcelain bare bulb fixtures, but alas, they aren't bright enough... They were on clearance for $6 at Home Depot.
