So, ‘tis the season, and each year when I hear those lovely tunes of Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite, I can’t help but remember in the very late 1960s a wonderful Sears commercial. I was only 5 or 6 years old, but I recall it had the “Dance of the Reed Flutes” as background music, while showing off a Sears Kenmore washing machine in action — with the camera zooming into a close up the agitator going back and forth, moving the clothes around, all to the beat of the song.
Was this a local commercial (Eureka, CA)? It obviously left a big impression on me, and I can’t help but think of the beautiful song accompanying the fantastic ballet movement of a Roto-Swirl! Needless to say, I’ve been a Nutcracker Suite fan ever since! |
