Hi everyone.

As many of you know, I had a shed built specifically to hold the collection late last year.

Kevin asked how progress was going, so thought I'd show progress to date. Plumbing and electrical were completed in August but it's still a work in progress: I'm waiting for the builder to come back and build shelving around the perimeter of the shed so I can display my fan collection and all the other laundry memorabilia. I'm not sure if it'll happen before the end of the year now so I have to be patient.

Once that's done the final touches can happen.

Nathan (Brisnat81) and Michael have been over a couple of times to see the progress.

The pictures will show the plumbing, electrics, wall insulation, internal sheeting and placement of the collection to date.

Cheers
Leon

Hi Leon,

I would hardly call that a “shed!” What a marvelous space for some very interesting machines. Might be time for me to take a trip down under and see your collection if I am welcome! Thank you for sharing and it all looks very exciting. Very nicely done.

Of course you'd be welcome Todd

Hi Todd

Of course you'd be welcome, anyone keen on coming out to see the collection will be welcome...we could certainly show you the sights of Queensland like we did for John L last year.

Cheers
Leon

Hi Leon,

That is truly incredible - purpose built with water supply, drainage and power for each machine. The stuff dreams are made of...

I'm totally in awe of your collection, especially given how few vintage machines are still around in Australia.

It looks as though you have imported a few washers too ? I have imported a Frigidaire Flair, a Philco Predicta Tandem, many small appliances and numerous cars, but not a washer (at least not so far...haha).

Absolutely brilliant !

Regards, Tim

US machines

@Christina & Tim

You both have good eyesight! The back row of the shed has (mostly) the USA machines I brought back to Australia in 2016.

Cheers

Leon

WOW... really wow.

Hi Leon. Amazing.

Photo 19 - what is that Zodiac with a dispenser drawer and the early door release? A prototype?
Photo 11 - what is the third machine from left with the aqua patches on the dashboard?
Do I spy a Wilkins Servis front loader? The first washing machine I ever bought was one of those. Bought second hand from a backyard repairer, it leaked badly and he swapped it over for a Hoover 455. (The Wilkins Servis even fitted easily into the boot of my Citroen GS at the time. The Hoover did too but it was a very tight fit.)

congratulations.

Just mentioned in the previous thread if your collection has out grown your new building LOL

You will be the Lee Maxwell of Australia at the rate the of the Gorgeous Machines you have acquired. The details are spot on.

The Best and My Best to you. Eddie

Chris, that is a mid-1960s Kenmore 800 "alphabet" washer. Letters A - H designate a specific cycle. A is cottons & linens white, B is cottons & linens color, ...

Looks great, Leon! Where did you get that GE FF set in photo 15?

Post# 1017463 , Reply# 16   12/9/2018 at 14:16 (1,957 days old) by mayfan69 (Brisbane Queensland Australia)
Hoover FL & others

mayfan69's profile picture

Chris: that Hoover FL is indeed a prototype: given to me (along with the Electra) from Phillip who used to be a Hoover engineer. He's posted in the forum as 'Meadowbank'.

And yes, that is indeed a Wilkins Mark 72.

@Austin: will get you some pics when I'm next there and have a bit more time.

@ Potatochips: the GE FF set were bought separately off our 'Craigslist': the dryer itself was still in its box having never been used.

Cheers

Leon

Hi Leon, wow!! Such impressive work, it's going to be a washerland for sure! I love all your machines and no washer collection is complete without multiple MixMasters as well!

Looking forward to seeing more pictures.

Thanks for posting the update Leon, it's looking great so far!

I am so pleased to see and hear things are progressing nicely (albeit slower than you'd like).  I'm looking forward to seeing the "final" update when it's all done and set up with all the finishing touches!

Cheers!

Kevin

Leon, I'm at a loss for words. Amazing and beautiful is an understatement. Can't wait to see more when the project is all finished.
