I’m mainly aiming my question at John Lefever but also anyone else that sells SQ too. Did they omit the lint filter guard from the DR series dryers? Took delivery of my DR7000 yesterday and it’s missing.

Also noticing this dryer likes to rattle a lot, thinking it was the vent kit for bottom venting I took the front panel off and realized it’s part of the chassis right next to the left roller (that sits over the burner) that’s rattling so much. I would love to hear opinions on this before I decide where to go next with that. Is that characteristic of this design?

Happy Holidays!

Jonathan

New SQ Dryers

Hi Jonathan, Congratulations on your new SQ gas dryer purchase.

SQ eliminated the lint filter guard around a yaer ago on all their dryers, it really does not serve much purpose.

As to the rattle these are not the smoothest, quietest dryers ever, but they should not rattle, check for any loose screws relating to the balk-head, burner assembly and cone, rear rollers etc. I would use it a while unless it is really annoying in which case call for service.

My 2013 SQ Dryer

Does not have any rattles to it. That's the one thing I like about it. :-) Sounds like they are slipping in the QC department.

Not the place for me to say it- but here goes: The fact SQ was bothered enough to take a piece of plastic away shows they are thinking about cutting costs. Something is wrong, they know they screwed up and now its damage control in progress. I'd fight SQ for the rattling if it does not go away after a few loads.

I think I’ll take it apart after Christmas and see if there’s any loose screws. If that doesn’t fix it then I guess I get to fight them to fix it or take it back.

The funny thing is my aunts brand new 27” WP “commercial Maytag” dryer has the exact same rattle from the chassis as my SQ. How odd is that?

Service Bulletin

There is an Alliance service bulletin from a couple months ago regarding this problem. I couldn't find a pic online of the bulletin, but the number is :FB18-28R1

If you're going to have a warranty tech come and service it, they should be aware of it. Otherwise I can find somewhere to upload so you can see the bulletin. It requires putting in a screw near the left roller.

If you can upload it that would be great. I was already planning on taking the drum out to investigate further and the idea of putting a screw in near the left roller had actually crossed my mind so to see the bulletin would be helpful. I have no interest in getting someone out if I can easily fix it myself, which adding a screw near the left roller is nothing to me.

Curious, how far back does this bulletin date? I can’t possibly imagine this has always been an issue, so wonder what changed.

I made a pic file. We'll see if this looks good enough.

Ken

Thanks for that info! I did the repair last night in about 25 minutes while taking my time and now it’s 90% better, there’s still a little bit of intermittent rattling from near the back of the control panel and a little squeaking too but overall it’s much quieter now.

In the video you can see there was a piece of metal that’s part of the heater duct that was free to rattle around, at the end you can hear a different rattle begin as the dryer heated up, I merely touched the back of the cabinet and it went away and didn’t come back while drying a load of clothes. The squeak came from the same spot too, may investigate further if it keeps coming back, seems like it’s happening where the top meets the back panel.

filter guard

Jonathan,

I was planning to but a Speed Queen FL washer/dryer set this past summer, and I purchased a filter guard separately to go with the new dryer. It turns out that the dealer was unable to get the washer in and the model was discontinued. I cancelled the order and now have a new and unused filter guard. I paid $8.80 for it on amazon, but it wasn't worth returning because after return shipping and a 30% restocking fee I'd hardly get any money back. If you are interested in it let me know.

Those guards do serve a purpose. Unless you immediately clean the filter BEFORE you take them out of the dryer, pulling clothes across that area will attract the lint. Sad they are cheaping out. Especially since the price has doubled.
