Greetings all.

I've discovered this site a bit late...but here goes.

I have a Maytag KDE 806 that I'd like to sell and from a ID search of the serial number, the best indication is that the dryer was manufactured in November 1969. My parents purchased this with the matching washer new.

The matching washer is long since gone. The replacement was Maytag LA 510 and has a rusted tub adjacent to the discharge hose connection. I'm taking delivery of a new-ish matched GE set and out of curiosity searched for the dryer and found this site.

The dyer works for the most part perfectly, however there are some known issues:

1. The end of cycle bell does not chime. Looked into it and the mechanical striker is missing...and has been for a long time.

2. Activating the dryer in the regular cycle doesn't always work the first time. Several pressings or a slight shifting of the knob position does activate the dryer. Air Fluff, Damp Dry and Permanent Press activation works perfectly.

3. The dryer does not always automatically shut off. It does automatically shut off in the Air Fluff and Damp Dry Cycle but not always in the Permanent Press and Regular cycles. I'm suspecting a thermostat or limiter issue.

4. The console light was not working. But just minutes ago replaced the starter and the lamp lights up. Really nice looking. :)

The unit lived in a finished basement and is very clean for it's age. Minimal scuffing and a small paint chip on the door, approx 1/16 inch in diameter.

I'm taking delivery of the replacement set on 01/03/2019 and the used appliance dealer is not very interested in reselling the unit. I'm really reluctant to part with this dryer and would hate to see it end up in a scrap yard.

I wish I had found this site a few months back. :-\

Let me know if you're interested. I'm in Chillum Maryland near D.C.

We had a DG806 (gas version) for a number of years.  Great dryer.  When we got it used, its chime wasn't working either, and for the same reason.  I was able to rig up a wire (it might have been made from a paper clip) with a round head screw in the end of it and that got the bell ringing again.  It could very well be that your striker mechanism has fallen off and is lodged somewhere.

Because of your dryer's color, it might be of interest to someone here.  Give people time to respond.  If you let the appliance guy take it away, it's going straight to the scrap pile.

Hi Nick, Thanks for posting this neat old dryer and trying to save it.

We operate an appliance service company in your area and also collect and restore appliances.

If someone wants this dryer we may be able to help rescue it, it is too old to be a practical machine for every day use for most consumers.

You can reach me at our office in Beltsville, ALCO Appliance 301-937-6996

Appliance Restoration

John,

Thanks for the info regarding appliance restoration.

A correction regarding my current dryer. It is and has been in regular use since my parents bought it circa 1969. I'm interested in saving it since it works. The dryer has been in a dry, finished basement and it's my daily machine.

Aside from the issues I mentioned, it's in good working order and cosmetically excellent. If you're interested in it, let me know.

Thanks.

Hi Nick, I stand behind my comment that this dryer is too old for MOST consumers to use as a daily driver,

this is why the guy that is bring in your newer GEs does not want it,

There are almost no parts readily available for it.

It is not nearly as large or even safe to use as a newer dryer,

And you are apparently getting rid of it for some reason ????

No I do Not want it, but I can help someone obtain, repair, restore it if needed, it belongs in a collectors hands or with someone that wants to use and work on a vintage dryer.
