My selector switch will not readily activate the dryer, only in the Regular cycle. A slight twist of the knob, while depressed, activates the dryer. Hence I thought it was a faulty contact within the selector switch. A bit of study revealed a different problem.
Uploaded three photos, all looking down at the switch. In the first photo, the Plate (3-12282) is not aligned and is slightly bent. Photo 2 show the switch depressed and the bent plate is more visible. I checked the nut to be sure it was tight and the plate was properly seated...it was. Then removed the plate and flattened it out, with the help of a vice and a few light taps with a hammer. The third photo is of the plate re-installed and depressed. The result is that the dryer now activates in the Regular cycle.
A couple of questions about the Selector Switch:
1. Has anyone opened up the switch to attempt a component repair?
2. Does the switch have some sort of contact that will wear with age?
I'm curious as to what is inside the switch, however I'm not about to open it up for fear of destroying an otherwise functional switch.
With the selector switch not readily available, I'm wondering about alternatives, possibly including component repair.
