This top filter Whirlpool Dryer was ok on the outside and might have sold it as was to someone who needed a cheap dryer. I want an “easy” chore after I ran into a dead end on another machine (Samsung frontl oader) so I thought to give this old workhorse a “quick cleanout”. I am pretty good at it after having done a few others, but holy mother of gunk ‘n funk was this thing filthy. A dryer fire already, although apparently too small to bother with addressing? O M effin’ G! I am chomping on a vitamin C as I write this, post long hot shower. Really got to stop with the, “sure I will take away your old washer and dryer” thought. Sold an extremely nice, nearly new LG set and took this and a DD washer off the buyers hands for $50. The washer was also a mess, which I mistakenly cleaned first, and when I tested it water ran out from below the tub like Niagra. They had it set up outside and it had been leaking for years by the looks of things, e.g copious chunks of rust inside the cabinet. That’s when I thought maybe I should be a little circumspect about the dryer. So glad I did...in a manner of speaking. This dryer has seen a number of burning dust bunnies, a mountain of beach sand, guitar picks, coins, and someone clearly likes to floss their teeth a lot. Like duuuuuuhhhhh, didn’t anybody know that supposed to clean alll that lint from your dryer?!
Maybe nobody knew where the lint trap was if it wasn’t in the door, the threshold or in back of the drum, and that dryers have come a long way from unscrewing the back periodically as opposed to after each load for a reason... (Yes, lift that little flap on the top!!!! Under that lid is where it is! Pull up on the lever! Pull out the screen! Clean that schmutz off of it!) For SAFETY reasons—glad that there wasn’t a FIRE, which surely one more load in that would’ve gotten close to... And just how and why TWENTY pictures anyway? All that uncouth getting far out of hand, that’s it...! — Dave |

I wouldn’t eat of it but there is progress to report. Look at that gleaming white bulkhead/fire wall (whatever it’s called), didn’t do anything to it yet, passed by the ravages of time. The bulb is toast and the lense cover missing, gonna omit it. How should I plug the hole? |

Hmmmmm, I would say the remnant of melted plastic left there, just needs to be removed...
Would just putting in a new bulb and replacing all of its surrounds and getting a new lens for it give you a change of heart about omitting?
Or are there too many other wiring issues you can't remedy that the bulb will clearly never light up again, in which case a metal disc of some sort (if you can get the right-sized fit & means of screws for holding to whatever mountings) maybe can plug up that unused spot?

I taped up the hole for the light with aluminum tape. As i had a buyer already and i priced it so cheaply $12 for an Ebay lense, 2 or $3 more for a bulb, and days of waiting, was a non-starter in this case. But if i had to do it over again... Last pic or two is the “something pretty ” i bought myself, as Laundress suggested. One hot number too, a breakfast burrito in paradise! This post was last edited 01/23/2019 at 15:27 |

Onward to the new scuz. Not as bad. Guy complained the machine was taking twice as long to dry. I find the blower ducting half clogged with hardened lint and kitty litter(?), probably some relation. Dryer sheet under badfle, how the... This post was last edited 01/24/2019 at 20:22 |
