The washer is a 606 with an early 8 fin agitator installed that ran production from Jan 1966 through Nov 1967 for the 606/806/906 models. Maytag went from a 3 button to 4 button water level switch in Dec 1968 and crystal timer dial knobs in late 1971, so the agitator is most likely not original to the machine. The timer dial on the dryer console is too blurred for me to decipher the exact model but easily narrowed down to either a DE306 or DE406.....leaning towards a DE406 for what little can be seen.
Coatings Paints and Fading: Paint colors and their attractiveness is purely subjective, not based on factual information. As they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I'm a big fan of pre 1966 Coppertone color Maytag produced but not a fan of that shading used on the 06 series. It's just my opinion though. All makes, models, years, colors, and coatings are prone to fading and that includes porcelain. Laundry room locations with windows, sizing and placement of windows, as well as sun positioning all have a large effect on this regardless of make. This becomes incredibly apparent from all colored appliances that have been sitting outside for long periods of time. I've seen it occur with all makes and models new or old in regularly visited haul away piles in less than one months time when placed in direct sunlight. Speaking of coatings, perhaps this is a good time to bring up manufactures that porcelain coated their top panels back in the day. Lets see, GM Frigidaire did it. GE did it with most of their models if not all of 'em. It was the standard for all Maytag models BOL to TOL. Whirlpool/Kenmore? Nope, that was for TOL models only and not all TOL models were granted that blessing. Makes me think back to when a liquid detergent bottle developed a pinhole leak that sat on top on my 1981 Kenmore Series 70 dryer. Paint bubbled up in less than 24 hours and the rusting process immediately began. Pondering about it now, I wonder how many millions of WP/KM washers/dryers were crushed simply due to the fact that the owner didn't want to look at or deal with a cheaply painted rusting pile of functional metal in their laundry room which was a non existent problem in other makes. What an incredible waste of precious resources. |
