1964 Ultramatic

It appears complete. And it has the Ultra ray broiler. A bit pricey though.

A Question for the Expert

Louis, I only saw the one picture. How can you tell it has the separate broiler compartment and not a second oven? It looks kinda dirty on the control panel.

If you look towards the right of the stove, you'll notice 2 indicators right above the oven knob and the automatic burner knob. To my knowledge, Caloric never used one for the Ultra ray broiler knob. If it were a second oven, logic would suggest there would be an indicator above the knob.

Thank you, Louis! I must admit that I treated gas stoves as untouchable outcasts so I did not absorb the finer points about them. What are the marking on the indicators, please?

Thank you for sharing your deep knowledge.

Early 60s Coloric 36" Gas Range

The little indicator tabs above the oven thromostat and burner-with-a-brain are just reference marks to help you set the temperature precisely, Louis is correct the the Ultra-Ray broiler would not have the indicator because the URB control is just like a burner knob where you can't set the heat exactly [ generally a problem with most gas ranges compared to electric ranges ]

This would be a really fun vintage range with great style, John L.

You're welcomed Tom. And John is right about the Ultra ray. It's either on or off. If you want to regulate it, you'd have to reposition the rack. Of course, that would not include the rotisserie since it's fixed.

Back in the late 80s or very early 90s, John and I found a pink late 50s or very early 60s Caloric out on the curb. We took it to John's where we took it apart since a restoration-type cleanup presented as a little too greasy in the reward vs. punishment ratio for something we had no interest in having in our collection. I did, however, save the forerunner of the large light apparatus seen on this stove, cleaned it up and still have it in a closet at home.
