Washer should have Triple Action Agitator and 3 speed motor, one of WP's best. Unfortunately the dryer is the front lint filter design. While still a very good dryer it is not the legendary top filter.

I remember seeing these on display at the local Sears and also a set of these in belt drive briefly before direct drive took over. It’s been over 30 years ago now, but I seem to remember the set of black belt drives being heavily discounted and were gone the next time I looked. I’ve never seen a set in a home in all the years I’ve run service but always liked both sets.

I always wonder when I see these, given how few must have been sold, if their real purpose was to make the MOL models more appealing.

As in person might think, "I would never splurge on those but I will get the MOL model."

If there were just two choices they might go with the cheapest one.

The auger is spring-loaded on the vertical axis.  The premise is that on a heavy load it will climb upward on the load and the downward spring pressure helps with rollover.  It doesn't do much in practice unless the load is VERY large/heavy.

absolutely these were to force the volume into the mid-range.
