Un-flippin'-believable... I threw a load of freshly Time-Line washed clothes into the 55 Norge Time-Line dryer, turned the dial and... nothing! Nada! Rien du tout!

Lights came on but no motor movement or sounds.

I must have been very bad to dryers in a past life or Appliance Karma is out to get me.

The 53 Westinghouse is probably going to get swapped back into service... assuming IT doesn't decide to rebel on me.

I don't much care for this unlucky streak....   Rant over.  Carry on....

Some good news....

The 53 Westy did not let me down.  I would have been most disappointed if it had (and by disappointed I mean "white hot murderous rage").

Time to diagnose the non-cooperative Norge....

Does the door switch click when pressed?

It does; the drum light goes off and the panel light comes on.  I am wondering if it might be a belt switch.  The 51 Frigidaire Filtrator played that trick on me before...

is a beauty! Do you have the washer Paul? Our neighborhood was full of Westinghouse engineers in the 50s and I remember 2 families that had these. Is that the one that does the "How Dry I Am" jingle when it's done - so fun!

I do indeed have the matching Laundromat!  Bought the set from the grandson of the original owner!

The dryer is the 'Signing Signal' model - gotta love that!!

Dead Norge TL Dryer

There is no belt switch, I would look at timer contacts, loose broken wires on the motor [ or bad motor ] bad door switch, these are very simple dryers I am sure you will find the problem quickly.

I would also check if its not a problem with the dryer fusebox inside the dry that's not burn out

As my buddy Andy Rubenoff used to say, "These things are just supposed to work".

Even though you are my Arch Nemesis, this shouldn't happen to you.

"Signing Signal"

Is that a feature for the deaf user, not to make fun of those who cannot hear.  One of the Bushes was described as a blind man in a room of deaf people.

Tom, the term was used in Westinghouse advertising for the dryer. I guess it sounded better than the 'music box dryer'... LOL

Pierreandreply4 is the winner!

I had been stewing all week over the Norge dryer conking out on me and when reviewing my restoration pictures I noticed the Fusetron socket hidden by the lint trap access door.

I thought to myself "Could the fuse be bad?"

It was... changed it and the dryer motor started right up again!

Funny thing about fuses is they can be bad even if they don't appear to be "blown".   Nonetheless, I am very happy the Norge Laundry Maids will be a couple once again.

The 53 Westy Laundromat did look lonely though... I may have to bring it back into service in the spring.

Advertising jingo, apparently from 1967, that we saved from a dealer magazine. Just a skinny plastic sheet, for playing at 33-1/3.

I should put a coin on it and play it. I think I still remember the tune.

Hi Fred I would love to hear that jingle again. I think I remember it well, We even have a 3 Sp VHQ pair to go with this ad campaign at the museum.

Hi Fred, I just listened to the record, I really enjoyed hearing the jingle again, I remember coming home from school and hearing the Norge ads on TV with that jingle, It was on the TV Soap The Edge Of Night.
