My A308 washer seems to be broken. I was doing a load of towels and it just seemed to pause and never restart. The tub is still full of water. I can hear the timer and the dial keeps turning through cycles, but it does not advance to a new cycle, it just keeps rotating. I have tried manually advancing the knob and it does not agitate, spin or drain. Not sure what is wrong, but I have a load of towels sitting in water. Any help would be appreciated.

Lid switch? Mother-in-law's stopped mid cycle like that, full of water. I'm not sure about her timer still advancing because she just took everything out, dipped out all the water, and left it til I could look at it. $8 for a whole new switch assembly on ebay and only took 10 minutes to fix. Hopefully yours will be this simple. There is also a fuse built into the lid switch that can blow. That also happened to her washer a few years ago. Good luck. |

Repairman says it is the timer and the pressure switch needs to be replaced. He is hesitant to repair because lots of people say they want their old machine fixed, but then post bad reviews online because something else goes wrong and the repair fails. I don't know what is wrong with people who do that. If you have a vintage appliance repaired you knowingly take that risk as all the parts are old. Anyway, I think I reassured the repairman and I am going to check out some parts I found on Repair Clinic and eBay. I am very hopeful I have finally found an appliance repair person close to home to fix my vintage appliances!

Hi Kelly I have a Maytag washer just like yours with the exact problem you are having I will use this thread as a reference to get mine fixed .I got this Maytag free by a guy saying it doesn't work. so I took it home and cleaned up the rust inside the cabinet and coated it. I didn't want to scrap it if its an easy fix I love these washers simply the best . I also have two 1978 KMs that I rescued .

Hi Hippeedoll,
Sorry to respond so late. I have been going back and forth to the hospital keeping my brother company while he is ill. Anyway, the repairman is coming back to install the timer and pressure switch as soon as I have both parts. The stupid place that I ordered the pressure switch from just informed me today, nearly a week after I ordered the part, that the part was back ordered and would not even ship out for another week. I finally heard from them after I called with no response and emailed them three times! Very frustrating! So, I will be spending a second week at the laundromat and searching for a new pressure switch, which really blows. I really wanted to try to find new old stock, but I may have to downgrade to used. The repairman really does not want to use a used one, but at this point it may be my only choice. The whole experience has been a huge bummer, but at least I found a repairman who is willing to work with me. :) Kelly |
