Discovered this vintage Maytag Dutch Oven gas stove for sale in Lafayette, LA 70560 Owner says it is in working order. If you have the cookbook to go with it there are great menus to prepare oven meals with the gas turned off! Vintage Chambers stoves offered the same feature too. When the ovens are turned off the vents are closeds and the trapped heat cooks your food, saving you energy costs. This is a 4 burner 48" wide unit with a center 24" wide oven. Two storage compartments on each side of the oven. I don't know if the mechanical timer works. Notice the location of the burner controls on the backsplash, rare find for a gas stove. I have seen copies of the Cookbook for this stove and the recipes are delicious. Maytag discontinued selling these types of gas stoves in the mid-1950s. They were well built. It uses pilot lights to ignite the surface burners. I do not know if the oven has a pilot too or if it must lighted to preheat. are usually for sale on eBay. The Maytag Dutch Oven Cookbooks I hope someone can find a new home to rescue this stove.

These were great old stoves. However, those in hot climates better think about the thick steel plates that hold in the heat.
My bubbe's up in Midwood Brooklyn kept the kitchen nice and cozy in the winter and nice and hot in the summer.
Down on the bayou would be a whole different critter.

I think the knobs up top were a safety feature to keep us kids away from them. It worked.
