Just got these yesterday in Sacramento. Interesting how the dryer paint scheme does not match the washer and the washer paint job looks a little sloppy to me. Regardless, pretty decent machines. Washer 208, dryer 408. My existing HG ‘Tags are both 407’s, probably BOL at the time. Like the fact that the washer is a two-speed, whereas my HG 407 is only one-speed. I notice that the dryer door is larger than my HG 407.

Excited to get these going. I see already the belts on the washer need replacing, and the owner said the dryer quit working a while back and couldn’t remember if it stopped tumbling or if it didn’t heat. After a quick inspection, belts on the dryer seem okay, probably the heating element, she wasn’t sure. However, she was very excited that the set was going to someone who appreciated them. She said these belonged to her parents who were the only owners and she was reluctant to get rid of them because of how great they performed. She tried fixing the dryer but realized it was more than she could handle. Anyway, she was happy they landed with me.

Yes, some of you will probably see the ‘74 LK next to the new ‘Tags — haven’t had any time to get the washer spinning again and look into why the matching dryer took “6 hours to dry” according to the previous owners...

Will post more pics once I get them cleaned up and going...stay tuned! Funny how I am slowly becoming a Maytag fan — never really cared for them before. Could this set be almost the same as that in the Lucy Show episode where she ditched work to go on a shopping spree and took a quick gander at a Maytag set in the department store?

My friend's mother had that washer paired with a green Whirlpool dryer.

Nice score, Todd! I've always liked Maytags of this vintage in Avocado! Hope the dryer is an easy fix.

I'm not an expert on Maytag colors, but most appliance manufacturers produced the shaded colors through their 1976 model year products, then switched to solid colors in 1977.  Check your serial numbers and this pair's date of manufacture; that might answer your question about the two versions of the color.

Nice set! Front of the washer almost looks hand painted.

Congratulations Todd!!!!  Oh, and BTW, your 407 were NOT BOL.  They were MOL.  A BOL would have been a 106 or 107 set.  Your 407 was a Fabric-Matic.

Congratulations. That’s an awesome find. I love avocado anything ! I have a set almost identical to those. My washer is also two tone and the dryer is not.

Nice Set. Maybe you could paint the front panel of the washer to the solid avocado color.

On the Lucy show, the dryer was the earlier model, the HOH (Halo of heat) dryer, with the smaller door, and the lint filter at the back of the drum.

Your Avacado Maytag Dryer was made between 1977 and 1980

while your washer was made in 1975 or 76. As stated above all the appliance manufactures went to solid colors for 1977. PAT COFFEY

That was a great Lucy episode!  She won the mother-lode of appliances.  That TOL Washtrend Launderette pair was quite a prize!

I love the Lucy show. I had never seen this one though. That’s pretty awesome to see all those vintage appliances in the show room. I was definitely born in the wrong time. LOL

The Lucy Show rocks! I grew up watching reruns. Another fun “washer” Lucy Show is the one where she gets to be disc jockey for a day after identifying a radio contest mystery sound. While trying to figure out what the sound is, she turns on the washing machine out on the back porch (which we don’t get to see) and it sounds like a Norge!! While we hear the washer in the background Viv says...”sounds like you’re milking a cow out there!”

There was another episode involving a contest identifying a noise and it was a refrigerator being unplugged.  Not sure if it was The Lucy Show or Here's Lucy later on.

Congrats on landing a matched pair! There's something to be said about taking the torch from an original owner whom usually has a ton of pride in keeping and maintaining something for so long.

Good save! The slower speed on the 208 will come in handy for those delicate items.

I have a minty A207 console with wiring I've been trying to get rid of for years now. I keep threatening to throw it away and even had it in the recycle pile a few times but just couldn't follow through with it. Has a Mallory timer. It's yours if you want it.

Hey Ralph. I apologize for the late response but my email is not working and I’ve been trying to send you a reply with no luck. No I do not have my avocado set in the house for daily use. They’re just on display in my show room. Although I have considered it. But I would rather have nicer models with the lit consuls. If the opportunity presents itself to get a set such as that an avocado I most likely will not hesitate. And then they would most likely wind up in the house .

That's a familiar looking LK set! Goodwill $70 for the pair, remember?

Yeah, and were they also Harvest Gold? This set needs work. Dryer needs heating element, washer won’t spin — am hoping all it needs is a new wig-wag.

Look like great machines, along with what Lucy won (& did she have to forfeit anything for damage to the department store? All that reminds me of what I go through at where I work!)...

780 N. Gower is Paramount Pictures address (as was where Desilu was formerly located?)... Greatbold days, and saw those old episodes, remembering them far more than HERE’S LUCY, my mother mentioned that series of, ever more as what followed up I LOVE—...

Wish the gene pool in my fam’ made me more of a Jr. Des, sometimes along w/ little Luci appearing in episodes of the show...
