I have an over the range Amana AMV11254BAW from c. 2009. Some of the buttons ("5", fan and cooktop light buttons) have failed in the past three weeks. Oven and turntable work/cook fine, as long as I don't need the 5 button. However, now my hood fan and light are inoperative. I like my current MW in terms of features and form factor, and prefer not to have to replace it.

Obviously, the touchpad needs replacement. I looked at repairclinic.com's diagnostics, which implies that when some buttons work and others do not, it could be touchpad only OR it could be touchpad and control panel both are shot.

Is there a way to tell the difference before I order the part(s)?

ps repairclinic.com has the touchpad in stock at a reasonable price.
ps# evidently replacement control boards are out of stock

try the cheap answer first

First thing to try is remove and reseat the connection where the touchpad connects to the main board.

I have a 1980s stove with a touchpad for oven fan, light, clock and timer settings. A couple of times I have successfully removed the strip of the membrane panel that plugs in to the control board, cleaned off the contacts, and refitted the membrane to the connector block. It worked 2 or 3 times, though the membrane has failed now.

Worth a try...

Thanks, I'll give it a go.
