Real GE trash compactor

This was the half assed design that GE had to come up with after they lost the lawsuit having tried to steal whirlpools design, still an interesting machine but not near as convenient as the ones with the rectangular bin.

For awhile folks on YouTube were crushing stuff in these-and also trash trucks---"Will It Crush?that is the question?" to quote a famous blender maker.

I had two of these. The General Electric compactors have a significantly stronger compressive force than the Whirlpool machines, which is good and bad. Good in that you can get a lot of trash in it. Bad in that it could be hard to lift a very heavy fully compacted bag.

The round bin made it a lot easier to use regular trash bags, and since the bags were locked in with a circular ring, they didn't fall down into the bin during the compaction cycle, which often happened when I used regular trash bags in my Whirlpool.

Also the bin had a handle and slid easily out of its track, so you could carry the entire bin out to the curb before you removed the bag.

The downside was you have to remove the bin and open the circular retaining ring to put in a new trash bag. No big deal, it only took a few moments, but not quite as convenient as putting a bag in a Whirlpool.

The removable fiberglass bin was so much easier to clean than the permanent metal bin in the Whirlpool. It contained liquids if somebody accidentally put a bottle or carton, with liquids in it, for compaction. In the Whirlpool they leaked out on the bottom of the machine, and sometimes to the floor. You had to reach in the bin and clean it out with rags and a spray cleaner.

With the General Electric compactor, I just pulled the bin out of the machine and sprayed it out in the kitchen sink with the sprayer.

Likewise, If broken glass cut through a bag in the Whirlpool, you had to take the vacuum cleaner and clean out the compaction bin. With the GE, you just pull out the lightweight fiberglass bin out, and invert it, to get the glass shards out.

A very well designed machine.
