Got to thinking about my maple breadboard tat I use to kneed my rye bread and roll out my pie dough among other things.  Been using it for 30+ years and other than washing it I have done nothing to it.  Picked up a wood cutting board and was planning on oiling it prior to use, wondering if I need to do the same to the breadboard.

My bread dough can stick to it, I use a scraper to clean it off, don't know if I'd be creating issues if I were to oil it, perhaps only do one side? Thoughts?

Use a food grade oil designed for wood cutting boards and you should be fine. Just make sure the surface is clean first and use very little oil, allowing time for the oil to soak in and then wiping off any excess before you use it next.

After posing here I went to google and I'd say the results were 10 to 1 in favor of oiling the board.  The few dissenters said since maple is such an hard wood, the grain is tight and after many years of use honed the surface so it best not to do anything to it.

If I do oil it I will only do one side.
