My in-laws had this in gleeming black...

So, aging took its toll, the refrigeratior’s refrigerating and freezing ability, along with the capability of the proper working of the electriconics...

The obvious replacement was a newer, and somewhat simpler Whirlpool, sans the door-mounted snack bin and that digital readout flanking the dispensers...

GE SXS Ref

A well built ref that could have a long life, major weak points were short lived defrost heaters, clogged defrost drains and expensive to operate.

Models built before 1991 all had bad compressors and even after the new compressor and condenser was installed these refs often had other sealed system problems.

I really like these refrigerators. In my future home I'd love to have one of these, probably the Profile version in white on white, and likely post 1993 or so then it'd be cheaper to run.

I believe these still use mechanical thermostats, so more reliable? The controls on the door seem to be just for diagnostic purposes and a temp and door alarm. Although, I believe there is a power switch somewhere near or behind the toe grille.

I had this under the Kenmore brand....

bought it in 1988, ran flawless for 23 years, in fact still running in my brothers garage....

the tubes for the water/ice started to dry rot and crack...replacements were really expensive....so I opted for the Whirlpool 30cuft to replace it....

given a choice, I wanted another just like it

one thing I miss is the capacity of the ice maker

Strangely, these S x S with the reach in door have not been on the market for a while here as far as I know. Yet I've seen LG sells them in other countries. I wonder why that is?

I know GE made these into the 2000s... I've seen the stainless steel Profile Arctica models with a black reach in door. Must be mid 2000s at least. I think those were the last of them here.
