I'm a newbie on this. We bought a house and inherited a Maytag A412 Series O2 Washer and Dryer that are fabulous. Except for one small flaw. When we have heavy towels in the washer, it stops at the rinse cycle. I open the top and close it, the spin cycle starts for about 10 seconds, then stops again. It's only with either a bath mat or a big towel. Otherwise, the machine runs splendidly.
If anyone has a suggestion on what might be loose, I'd appreciate it.
While we got the washer and dryer, we did not get the manuals or parts guides.
Thanks from the new guy.

Welcome!

Your 412 is a one speed washer built between 1985-1989 and should have 4 button water level and 3 button temperature options.

Your problems sounds simple: The tub is going out of balance.

You have 2 options:

Evenly distribute the load if washing multiple articles of clothing when it goes out of balance.

Add more laundry to the tub if washing only one item (particularly a large and bulky item). This will help keep the tub balanced during the spin cycle.

Stick a ruler or something of the proper thickness between the back of the lid and lid switch when this happens and you'll be able watch the drama unfold.

Make sure the machine is level in all directions and the tub should be centered with the opening when the load is finished
