Hey Rob,
Looks like you ended up doing what I did — as much as I love having the really old vintage machines in the house, I had similar troubles like yours so ended up using a “newer” set (1985 Lady Kenmores with photo attached) as my indoor daily drivers. And I love your idea of paying tor accommodations and travel to repair your machines — I could do the same thing! I have a few myself needing attention — although I’m not in Palm Springs, I’m in Northern California wine country that might be interesting for someone to visit all expenses paid! Photo of the front of our house we like to call “Rancho Hacienda Costa Mucho!” It was a major fixer when we bought it a couple years ago and rather than calling it the money pit, we decided on the Spanish wording in keeping with the style of the home..! |

I would rather pay to get the Kenmore fixed than deal with a Maytag given my really really terrible luck with every one of them I ever had. |
