Lee Maxwell has a couple of these in his collection in Colorado. I believe the cup/arm assembly lifts out of the tub and the basket will spin "-DRY-" the load.

This is a rare find indeed. It looks to be identical with the washer in the Wright Brothers home in Oakwood (Dayton), Ohio.
Wilbur Wright died before the home was completed in 1914. His brother Orville and sister Katherine lived there, and Orville was a tinkerer supreme and made sure the house had all the latest gadgets. If you take the tour of the home they take you into the basement and you can see this washer. (The house also has a central vacuum cleaning system which was extremely rare in 1914.) |
