Just wanted to share a special (to me, anyway) and somewhat rare/uncommon Magnavox console I've had forever and ever. This is something I was very afraid to unwrap after a cross country move. Finally got to it today after 5 months....movers did it no favours. Scuffs, scratches, a couple nasty cracks in the cabinet. Not happy...BUT it still sounds like a dream. This is a fairly scarce Asian style cabinet model from Magnavox in 1964--perfect fit in the new 1964 house! Camera was messing with me, so some shots are not so hot...will have to photo again when I get the restoration and touchup work done...

Wow! An exotic beauty, indeed. Will always be a big fan of the Collaro record-changing system. Grew up with a circa '58 Magnavox.

Love it!

Magnavox made some good stuff in those days.

Interesting that they had a zip code for Magnavox Fort Wayne.

"oriental" cabinet...

...is really cool and unusual-I have a little 5-tube radio made in Japan in 1962 with similar styling:)

Astro Sonic

Really nice cabinet design for your Astro Sonic Magnavox.

That is sure a beauty. It would probably fetch a nice price in SF's Chinese community.

I happen to have a Magnavox console of the same vintage. It came with all the documentation, including a receipt from Capwells for $440, dated May 1964. Owner's manual, warranty certificate, etc. I picked it up off Craigslist about 15 years ago. A few years later the seller called me and said he'd sell my his dad's 78 rpm collection. Some cool stuff.

The turntable on mine is "Imperial Micromatic". A little more streamlined than yours. Everything works, although the treble seems to be attenuated on 33 rpm mode. Might be a cartridge issue, don't know. I tried a different one and it had the opposite effect: bass attenuated! LOL.

The styling on mine is more Danish modern. Nice to look at, but nowhere near as exotic as your gem.

Enjoy!
