Frigidaire dryers are interesting. Frigidaire did sell machines out here in Southern California, but I don’t think they were nearly as popular as Maytag and Whirlpool/Kenmore out here since they didn’t offer any gas dryers, and I don’t believe Frigidaire ever made any 1-18 gas dryers, and I could be wrong about that, but I haven’t seen any 1-18 gas dryers in the archives at all before.

Interesting. I did hook my DG606 up to gas no too long ago, and it did heat up fairly quickly. It may have been a little slower, but definitely more gentle compared to most modern dryers for sure. Converting a Maytag HOH dryer fram gas to electric is pretty easy since they are pretty much the same, but you would have to find a electric element for a HOH dryer if you wanted to convert one from gas to electric.

All FD Dryer models were available in either gas or electric since 1961 [ except Filterater models, LOL ] FD like GE and Westinghouse started out only selling electric dryers so it is possible that people looking for a gas dryer did not think og FD first, but we saw plenty of FD gas dryers over the years. . The FD 1-18 was a top rated dryer, but unfortunately like all FD dryers they were not the longest lived dryers, the 1-18 series was one of the few times in laundry history where the washer nearly always outlasted the dryer.

John HOH gas dryers may have had a constant burning pilot, but I’ve seen quite a few gas HOH dryers pop up for sale in the inland empire and Los Angeles area on Craigslist. Maytag had to have been very popular here in Southern California back in the 60’s and 70’s since I have literally seen a dozen plus Maytag center dial washer and dryer sets pop up for sale here, and a lot of them were in reasonable shape.
