I have a 1979 dryer and would like to get a new belt. Does anyone have a model number of the belt I could order?

Thank you!

If this is a halo of heat dryer it uses 2 belts...Y311013 & Y 311012. They are still available.

Since it’s from 1979, it’s a newer style of Stream Of Heat dryer. Maytag SOH dryers aren’t bad, but they don’t dry as evenly as the HOH dryers, but they are still decent dryers.

Your Maytag DG806 from 1979 has the larger drum, and the Maytag Halo Of Heat gas dryers built before the stream of heat dryers had a standing pilot that had to be lit so the burner would come on, and the newer stream of heat dryers have a igniter and you will see it glow ping when you turn the dryer on.

QSD-DAN could help you out with your DG806 from 1979. I don’t know every single thing about Maytags, but I know more about ‘Tags than most people my age, and QSD-DAN knows even more about Maytags than I do and I am still leaning about vintage Maytag machines.

Hi floyde, the problem is that you asked for a belt for a dryer that doesn’t exist!

The Halo-of-Heat DE/DG806 was only produced until around 1976.
The Stream-of-Heat dryers were then produced until around 1980.

So something is wrong, either your year (1979), or your model (DG806).
Perhaps instead of a DG806, you have a DG608? Or a DG808?

DG806 Dryer Belts

Yes thank you Dave, MT 806 dryers have two belts and MT808 dryers have one, they are COMPLETELY different dryers, this is why exact model #s are so important.

In either case the belts are still readily available,

Question why do you think it needs a belt, have you even taken it apart yet, at its age it is likley to need more than just a belt if you are trying to use this dryer much.

John

If you know for sure that your dryer is a 1979, this will work:

That's because we care about giving the CORRECT answer.
It avoids a lot of wasted time, money, and frustration to get the correct part the first time.

And remember too that we are on a forum here. Resolving this confusion isn't just for floyde - others down the road will find this thread in their search results ("DG806 belt", etc). So resolving the ambiguity may prevent similar problems for others in the future.

Yes, that makes sense. I know that many of you could have told him the same thing I did, but I didn't think about the future searchers. I have used the search to solve problems of my own before. If the dryer is for sure a 1979 (Stream of heat) than it would use the single belt as per #9. If the dryer is not a 1979 and truely is a DG-806, then as stated above it would be a Halo of heat, and would use the dual smaller belts.
A suggestion for Floyde:
Pull the back off of the dryer, if you see one belt, buy here.

If you see two belts, you would need to buy both of these.

Im so sorry for the confusion

It is a DG808.. So I assume Y312959 is the correct belt?

Many thanks, Can someone verify?

Yes, Y312959 is the correct part#. If you buy a higher quality belt, it will be longer before you will have to replace it again.
