Hi Ken

The point was to keep repair cost down if only one section got damaged or broken, currently it costs $300-600 to replace a full ST CT if you break one, But you are correct that the one piece top had greater consumer acceptance, and it was more expensive to build and assemble the multiple piece top.

Believe these also were a PPG pebbly surface (as opposed to Corning polished surface) unit.
