Wow, I guess KA's quality has gone down hill (like with everything these days?). I only replaced my 19 year old KA DW on 12/30/18 is because the heating element stopped working a couple years ago. Never had any other problems with it.
I replaced it with a new Bosch that I've been very happy with. It's whisper quiet and cleans better than the KA ever did. (doesn't leave yibbles on things in the corners of the upper rack).

New Mid To Upper End GE DWs Are a reliability nightmare We are throwing out a lot of them, Also skip any LG, Samsung Frigidaire and probably Bosch.
We pulled out a 2016 Bosch the other week [ customer bought a new Maytag ] I though the Bosch looked to new to scrap so we pulled it into the shop and fixed all the broken wheels, filter parts and broken door handle. We got it working and it is still in the testing area But it is a cheaply built DW, I would rate it no better than a Frigidaire.
Best you can do is a Maytag for overall performance and reasonable degree of sturdiness.

My “old” GE Profile dishwasher was 2.5yrs old when the racks started rusting and the motor started leaking!
1yr warranty only on GE. I do hear that GE ranges/ovens are still market-leading. Well built, perform well. Fridges are better than some. GE laundry is very spotty, I’d avoid unless you’re in a pinch. Oddly, their newest Chinese front loaders are selling very well with very good accolades. | ||

Depends on which Bosch dishwasher it is. My dad had an assentia model, and lasted about 4 years before the wash motor failed. My sister got her uplevel Bosch 5 years ago, with a $900 price, and it's fine. | ||

GE appliances is now owned by Haier, Chinese owned. GE is now Haier, mostly Chinese made junk. | ||

Oh no, another one of his boring stories... I'm glad to see people stick-up for the success they've had with various appliances, some expensive and some not.
Since I saw an endless supply of stuff come in as trade-ins due to the tremendous sales volume of the store, I became a teenage "expert" on what was dependable as far as used refrigeration. Used refrigerators were never repaired for resale unless it was something very simple like a light switch. No cold controls, defrost timers or anything like that. If they didn't work they were scrapped.
I always hated to see what I called the GE "June Cleaver" refrigerators get hauled away. Almost all of them were shot and had bad compressors, something I blame on the wire, cooking-grease-laden condenser (people did a lot of electric fry pan cooking back then) which was very hard to properly clean (my own uneducated theory). They were such attractive things with their modern styling, swing-out shelves and generous interior lighting. It just seemed a shame to dump them. The very common, older top-freezer GE's with their back-mounted condensers...they always worked.
Don't feel too bad. All of the Flair ranges (and since Frigidaire was the store's main brand there were a lot of them) were all scrapped too. I do realize this thread is primarily about new GE appliances. This post was last edited 06/09/2019 at 15:49 | ||

I've heard that over the range microwaves no matter what the brand will give up in 5 years or less. I know someone that has become a pro at swapping his own out. | ||

I swapped out my OTR microwave... ...because I wanted nicer lighting over the cooktop. I took out a couple of drawers in my kitchen island and installed one of those power-operated Sharp microwave drawers. I got a great deal on it since it was white and Sharp screwed up and sent me 2 rebate checks. I also got a deal on the Viking hood I bought simply because it was white. I replaced the second dishwasher at the same time with a GE Monogram (Whirlpool) ice machine along with a small cabinet. The little U-line wine fridge (haven't had alcohol for 2 years) was originally a trash compactor that now lives in the garage. Another new-purchase and terrific deal because it was taboo-white.
The OTR microwave was better in several ways due to the fact that the drawer model limits the height of whatever you put in it. Also, the drawer speeds up as it closes and utensils filled too high end up spilling.
If I attempted a project like this today I'd need a hefty nurse standing by to help me get up from the floor.

Well, to me, it seems you go from GE to GE, if you like General Electric, or if you don’t, then you go from GE to those other brands, and not the other way around...
I think I’ve seen Whirlpool be the most trusted products in the laundry room, whereas not always as much in the kitchen dominated by other brands, and GE, often mostly there... I agree, the quality will vary, and today’s “anything” will never be as well made as it used to be, but stated longevity is chiefly based on how well the appliance is kept and reasonable used... Paper’s on the side, likely to burn? No magnetism up front! Guys, help me, what should I do? — Dave | ||
