Wife wants new, I'd say it had a good run. KDS-16 superba, installed in 1971. We bought grandparents house and ran this for 5 years ourselves. Just replaced the timer and have the old timer here somewhere. She wants a new one and I've pushed all I can out of this KDS-16. Pics attached show last load today 6/15/19. Works but you need to do more than throw in a detergent pod. Anyone interested send me a note. I found the "dishwasher for special people" booklet too !

If working correctly

It will outwash ANY new dishwasher in 1/3 the time.

Not so fast....

Buy the new dishwasher and keep the KA in the garage.

5 minutes after the manufacturer's warranty expire, the new dishwasher will break. At that point your wife will be hating the new dishwasher that takes 3 days to run a load and will beg you to put the KA back in the kitchen.

EXACTLY!

You get rid of it and you will be sorry Better still, Send it to someone like John Lefever in Beltsville Md and have it completely rebuilt, you will spend less than buying new and you will have 40 more years of great service from a machine that actually will get your dishes clean.

Already have the new kitchen aid in the garage. Tipped it up to look at hookups and was not happy to see the "motor" if you can call it that. They did say 2-3 hours a load hope she isn't in a hurry, or better not be. The KDS will sit in my shed until something breaks I suppose. A good once over should be fairly straight forward. Already sprung for the service manual from here too. Not a project car, a project dishwasher. Hmmm

Just north of crescent city. I showed the wife these posts. Now she wants it on hand ! Funny how that works. I'll have a better look once it gets out, where do they tend to rust out from first ? Might have to move this post over to a non-sale thread. I appreciate all the comments, and your interest Awoof. Stay tuned...

Before we married, my wife had just purchased a new top-of-the-line dishwasher - I can't recall the brand for her home in another town. She was not happy about leaving it behind in favor of the old 'Superba' at my house - until she used it. She found the old one cleaned better and was just as quiet - plus had more features! Glad to hear you are keeping this!
