In the bottom right little tableau, the lady is wearing a hat and preparing to leave the place where her dishwasher resides, but through what I guess is a window, the moon and stars are visible. I thought that women did not wear hats at night back when etiquette and Emily Post governed such things.

Is that dishwasher set an an angle to suggest that it was the convertible portable with the hoses concealed behind the central medallion on the backsplash or does it want to go with her?

I believe it depended on were she was going. She would have worn a hat to a PTA meeting or any place else she would go wearing that smart suit.

Perhaps she's leaving very early for work.
