My niece reports to me that our Whirlpool agitator is slipping. If I push down on the agitator, it works as it should. See video. What needs to be tightened to fix this please. I removed the cap on the agitator and removed another cap inside to see a hex nut..is that the culprit that needs tightening? I don't have any tools for the moment. Thank you anyone for some guidance.

Ok! I'll check it out and get these old dogs replaced. Being on vacation, you know something happens that interrupts the relax mode. I know bench dogs but I'm unfamiliar with washer dogs. Thank you so much Melvin!
Update: It's an incredibly easy fix and not at all expensive. This post was last edited 07/11/2019 at 22:22 |

If the dogs failed it is because the machine is being overloaded which causes the dogs to shred.I see this everyday at the company I work for.The water level may also be too low. Most likely someone is being a bonehead with the machine |

The plastic cams deteriorate for many reasons and overloading is probably the LEAST likely reason they fail, WP DD washers are designed to wash really heavy large loads, on a properly loaded machine the clothing should come out of the water a little as the load turns over.
Its mostly a matter of time and the number of loads washed, so actually under loading [ which is far more common than over loading ] and washing many extra loads a month will cause the ADs to fail much sooner.

HI all - and thanks Christine. Actually, I ordered the kit, not just the dogs. My wife's nephew is going to do the replacement.
Bendixmark: This is interesting. I don't know how the machine is being used...might be a good idea to suggest lighter loads(but there's no washer policeman on premises.LoL). |

Happened to me once, too...
My newer Kenmore triple-action agitator got these pellets put in, after it had been causing lights on the same breaker circuit to flash, occasionally buzzed at me angrily instead of doing its job, and when it did, the agitator jiggled, not agitated... And with that, the thrashing was harsh and super-violent (And NOT truly washing the clothes, either probably--LOL)... -- Dave |

This same issue just happened with my sister & brother-in-law's WP washer last week. Wayne picked up a new set of dogs for around $4.00. He watched YouTube video before starting, and in about a 1/2 hour it was back in service. My sister said she was thrilled it was such an easy fix. She loves this machine. They bought it off Craigslist about 5+ years ago for $100, and it has given them great service so far. |
