Totally agree. Those are beautiful. I would think any of us would be proud to have those in our laundry area. They bring back a lot of fond memories. Barry |

I made a deal with the seller and they agreed to let me arrange to have them shipped to Texas. Now to find a shipper. Has anyone tried the company in Kenny (goat farmers) link? I’ve used uship before and had a bad experience with the company I chose after reading many good reviews. They didn’t wrap the machines like they said they would and beat, scratched, and chipped them to death. I’ve got a bid on uship and maybe will find a better company.

another option.
I've never used the YT magazine link, but have known people who successfully had items shipped that way. CLICK HERE TO GO TO goatfarmer's LINK |

Hi, I am working for a production house and we are looking for a few vintage washers (around the 60's) for a new project. We are based in London. Thanks for your help. Best regards, |

Those would be 1966 machines with those doorhandles.I have always used Transit Systems they do it all and are very reasonable. |

Yes they are later build editions of the 65 model, hopefully it will be the new stationary drum back machine, WP continued to build this 65 model dryer through most of 1966 so customers that bought the washer still had a chance to buy the matching dryer.
The 66 LKM dryers were all stationary back models.

Yes they are later editions of the 1965 model. This dryer was built in 1966 according to the serial number and the washer in 1967. The dryer does have the “new” stationary bulkhead. Not only am I excited to have these I’ve never seen an actual sudsaver in all the years I worked on washers and dryers. My aunt was the only one I knew who had one but they had chunked it before I ever remember seeing it. Replaced it with a circa 1990 Lady Kenmore that she never liked because she said it was way too rough on their clothes.

and they are in great shape for machines over 50 years old. I had a great experience with McNair Express Delivery, LLC. Chris did a great job in ensuring these machines made the trip across the country without any damage. Took a quick look before I had to go to work. The granddaughter of the original owner used them a bit after her grandmother passed away until the washer quit draining. I found the original 1967 pump frozen. The only thing I can see that’s been replaced on the washer is the suds diverter valve and probably the belt. Many pictures to come but here’s one for now. Thanks again to Robert for catching these on Facebook and posting them. The granddaughter sent me another message while these machines were in transit saying she found all of the original paperwork so it is in the mail.

Are SO MUCH BETTER than ANYTHING made today and leagues better than the direct drive machines, Probably I would have to think the most dependable washers and dryers ever made. |

Those are so beautiful!!! Another reminder of how boring the consumer product world is that we live in today. I'm thrilled they arrived safely! |

Thanks everyone! They are nice looking for sure and they are not even cleaned and waxed yet. I haven’t had the time but I can’t wait to post pictures. I think they will really look nice after a good cleaning.
Ben: the basket looks ok although there is some hard water staining that I have high hopes of removing. Moparwash: LOL!! |

Wow glad you got these machines, over the years I repaired and rebuilt many of both the washer and dryer box the 1965 machines.
At the warehouse we actually have a brand new pair of turquoise 1965 LKMs that Jason bought from a friend of ours.
Melvin if you need any parts for these or run into any snags get in touch, I have lots of stuff for WP built machines from the 60s.

So I finally had a chance to get some pictures. I haven’t had enough time to wipe them down but here they are exactly as I received them. The washer is a 1965 model that was actually built in 1967.

Those are in amazing condition the washer does not appear to need centerpost bearings and has its original water pump which is unheard of. |

So I pulled the wash basket today to get as much hard water stain off as possible to show that nice heavy white porcelain underneath. Still working on that but found some pretty deep cancer on the center post shaft. I guess that’ll be my first repair to the machine. Before removing the basket I put it on spin a couple of times and it’s quiet with no bearing knocking but that’s without a load. Once I get the basket cleaned to my satisfaction I’ll replace the pump and use it several times to see if everything works and if there are any water leaks. The results from this will determine my next move. Do I tear it down completely and rebuild it or wait for an issue to pop up? I’ll know more once I run it. Bendixmark I can’t wait to hear about that ‘73 kenmore you’ve got coming to you.

IMO - I’d pull the trans and outer tub; replace the doughnut and drain trap seal, clean up the trans and grease the cam bars, if you are reusing the drive make sure the pulley bearing has fresh oil. Even on machines that were whisper quiet the center post bearings have probably worn on the drive tube. A new set of bearings and seals are the assurance of not ruining an NOS drive tube. I’d also wash a few loads of heavy towels to test the agitator shaft drive spring inside the transmission. If it starts knocking or slips up in agitation the trans will need servicing or replace with one from an 80’s belt drive.
This also goes without saying - new belt and replace the pump while you have it torn down, and tend to rust issues with your favorite rust inhibitor paint. Good luck! Ben |
