My 1961 Kenmore washer quit last night. The main pulley came loose and off! I got it back on, put on the belt, but now when the machine goes into spin mode, the clutch does NOT slip hardly at all. It slips a tiny bit, but not like it should. I read somewhere to spray the lining with silicone (it is the full lining, not the three pads). Is this correct? The clearance seems to be good. ?????

Update!

I hadn't tightened the belt enough. Once tight it slipped like it should. Whew!!
