As much as I like belt drive Whirlpools and Kenmores I also like the Kenmore direct drive machines built before 1993. Found these two washers that are in pretty great shape for being 27 years old. While these particular machines may still be abundant in some parts of the country, they are sort of rare around these parts.

Melvin, what is significant about the year 1993 and DD washers that has you prefer them before that year? I think the dryer is older than 27 years. It's probably one of the earliest KA dryers due to it still have a metal pull handle on the door. I wish the photo was better for the washer timer. I think this is very similar to the model friends from church had. This model includes the shifting of wash agitation from high to low in all but the heavy duty cycle. If the 1986 Lady Shredmore had had that feature, I probably would have kept it through it's entire life rather than mothballing it for front loaders. |

I like the black and wood grain consoles on these machines and I believe 1993 was the last year for those. They had the all white or all black consoles after that until there new console design in 1997 . You are correct on the dryer it is 30 years old being built in 1989. The washer pictured with the dryer is a different one than the one pictured by itself although they were both built in 1992 and are really close if not the same model machine. I’ve personally always liked the heavy agitate action of the direct drive machines because I usually get dirty on a daily basis and they have always washed my clothes really well.

After looking at both washers they are the same machine. Both are 110.92274100 built in 1992. Yes the agitation does what you say on these and I’m pretty sure 1992 was the first year for that on Kenmore. I liked the Kenmores because they offered the heavy duty cycle with high speed agitation only. I never did care for the Whirlpool regular cycle where the agitation slowed towards the end of wash.

Is the model KEYE700T (KGYE700T for gas)? It'd be a 2nd-generation KA dryer. The first KA laundry offerings (S year) included only a model "900" fully electronic touchpad pair (KAWE900/KEYE/KGYE) and model "800" mechanical rapid-advance-timer pushbutton pair. |
