So Bendix made this giant bolt down automatic washer for Norge so that Norge would have an automatic washer to sell while their top loader was being readied for market. Some of the construction looks like what's inside the Duomatic, just not suspended. It's interesting how the front of the machine shared the side panel decorations, almost uncapped pilasters, with the contemporary Hamilton dryers. It would be neat to see them sitting next to each other.

Thank you, Jeff for scanning this.

I always wondered about the Bendix influence in this one. Cycling is also like a Duo-Matic. Anyone ever seen one of these up close??

The cycling is what Bendix settled on in the 40s and the patented assured rinse after the wash drain is what Westinghouse paid a ransom to use in their Laundromat. The lack of a spin between Westinghouse's two deep rinses in the cycle was because of the AVCO/Bendix patent and it was not until the Italian-constructed White Westinghouse/Electrolux machine in the 90s with the reversing tumble where the after wash assured rinse led into a deep rinse that the cycle had a spin after each deep rinse.

When we say “giant,” was this machine really double the capacity of other front-loaders at the time? And it seems this was Norge’s first foray into the washing machine market?

Yes it claims to have a 20lb capacity and I believe consumer reports backed that up. I'm not sure if Bendix actually made this or Norge bought certain parts from Bendix. The pump look very different than any Bendix machine I have seen. The transmission however is clearly Bendix.

I would!

Love to have one, other than the anemic extraction it would be a great washer
