I got this dryer in trade for free...what an unbelievable mess. Under the hood it was PACKED with the thickest carpet of hair and lint I have ever seen, 3 inches deep in some areas!
The almost new looking old belt was broken like it was pulled apart. The second pic shows where I think the belt melted having rested on the flame chamber after breaking.
The rollers turned well despite their appearance, no other cuts, nicks or unusual wear on the old belt. The glide pads on the front housing were fairly worn, but still intact. The new replacement belt did installed very easily, same as an old stretched belt would. It was a Whirlpool branded part. I thought the easy install a little strange, worked fine however. I neglect to check the idler wheel though. But the drum turned normally by hand after reassembly. The outside of the drum was very rusty however, except the front area that contacts the glide pads. I cleaned the belt path well with steel wool. This dryer was in a rental near the beach.
What’s up here? I sold it within hours of listing it on Craigs; I hope the new owner doesn’t have any issues.
Sorry no after pics of the mess I exercised. Suffice it to say my nearly empty Filter Queen is now nearly full though. The job required a putty knife as the mess had adhered to the base in many areas due to strange drippings from above.

Speed Queen Design MT Built Dryer

These were made By Amana-Maytag, while most parts are interchangeable with current SQ parts you can sure how much more cheaply MT built them.

When you have that type of lint build-up in any dryer it usually means the exhaust vent had a poor connection to the dryer or lots of leaks in it near the dryer, it is not usually a fault in the machine.

Many engineers often say that it is a good thing that dryer belts break as it causes someone to clean up the inside of the machine and correct other faults before the whole thing goes up it smoke.

This is why about a decade both GE and WP started using narrower belts on their dryers because they know they will break sooner and require the dryer to be serviced sooner.
