In fact the only microwave convection tested worth bothering with was the Panasonic. A model by Quasar (IIRC) came in a close second, and the Radarange dead last (again IIRC).
CR tested the ovens for things like broiled hamburgers, various baked goods, things that a normal convection oven are designed to prepare. Issue with the Radarange and IIRC most other microwave convection ovens is they aren't "true convection". That is rather than having heating elements that surround a fan which constantly circulates air, these units used heating elements usually concealed in top of oven or elsewhere. Thus the fan merely recirculated whatever heat was inside oven cavity. CR also took issue with the amount of pre-heat time required before these convection/microwave ovens could be used. All this being said some bakers swear by older Sharp Carousel microwave convection ovens. |
