I just changed out my refrigerator from a GE side by side to a LG French door. Last week the refrigerator crapped out and I lost a lot of food. My GE dishwasher stopped working about 3 months ago the machine kept stopping and started to leak. It was 18 years old and the refrigerator was almost 21 years old. Time for new stuff I bought a Bosch 300 series!

I think you'll really like the Speed 60 cycle on your dishwasher.  I use it most of the time with the Extra Dry option.  It cleans everything in 1 hour and 24 minutes.  On rare occasions will I find a piece of cutlery that didn't get quite clean.  The manual says to use it only for freshly soiled dishes, but I use it all the time on dishes that have been sitting for two or three days.  I just scrape them out with no rinsing and put them in!

Congratulations! Always fun to have new appliances to play with. Models in the Bosch 300 series top Consumer Reports' ratings. Also rated 'Excellent' for reliability and customer satisfaction (a recently added category).

While performance ratings are great for the LG refrigerator, I was surprised to see that the highest any brand is rated in the categories of reliability and customer satisfaction (for 3-door models) is merely 'Good.' For what it's worth, your LG is at the top of those categories as well.

Enjoy!

new appliances??? I mean, I want the ones I have to continue to work but it's like Christmas getting new ones. LOL
That refrigerator you had did look VERY old but if it lasted 21 years, that's totally worth it. Did it ever have any repairs? I hope the LG lasts as long but you would win the lottery if it did. I think I would consider Bosch as a dishwasher I think they look super cool and hear good things about them.

Peter, congratulations.  I remember when you got the dishwasher, replacing the PowerClean.  My LG-produced Kenmore Elite bottom mount has been good.  It seems the modern dishwasher of choice is now Bosch.  I'm looking forward to your views and adjustments to the racking.

I filled it up with just average soiled dishes certainly not a Bob load and now I am running it on speed60 cycle - I will check the results in the morning!

Bosch

I have nearly the same machine. Glad to see you removed the cutlery basket. I just use the third rack for silverware. That machine looks hardly loaded. You need to load that puppy up! I would actually recommend using Normal instead of Speed60. But, you will find what works best for you! Auto is my to go to and has never let me down. I generally run Heavy at least once a month to really allow the detergent to break down any build up gunk in the machine.

I will probably be using normal or auto most of the time. I just really wanted to try it out. I took out the silverware basket but I am not used to a 3rd rack - that is something really new for me. I don't plan on using both at the same time - if the 3rd rack doesn't work out I will take it out and just use the basket we will see what happens!

I had an LG with a third rack that I used for silverware. Worked very well. It was awesome having all the extra space in the bottom rack for pots/pans. I put large utensils like ladles and wide spatulas in the 2nd rack.

I really missed the 3rd rack when the LG was replaced with a GE. Even now, with my Whirlpool portable, I use a very small, 2-section basket for silverware in the lower rack. I think it was actually meant to be a utility basket for the upper rack, but I stuff it full and only occasionally have to clean off a few yibbles.

I use nothing but the 1-hr cycle on the Whirlpool with great results. The thing cleans well, but is as loud as a bowling alley. Would hate to hear it roaring away for 2-1/4 hours in my open-plan apartment using the Normal cycle.

Looking forward to seeing the results from your new Bosch tomorrow. You may grow to love that 3rd rack as much as I did.

Results!

Well everything came out clean and dry - I am pleased. I have the rinse aid set for #2 being I have soft water. The walls in the unit were wet but I don't care about that because all the dishes are bone dry. I will be trying out the other cycles and will let everyone know the results!

Great to hear that the Bosch performed well on its 1-hour cycle. And the 3rd rack worked out for silverware? For me, the trade-off of having to load silverware one piece at a time was worth opening up all that extra space in the bottom rack.

That's the intended situation---dishes dry; walls wet (kind of the reverse of a cold-wall refrigerator, actually!). The last action of our Bosch d/w at the end of the cycle is a 30 second pump-out of condensate; and the first action upon start up is also a pump-out before the fill starts.

Bosch Dishwasher!

peteski50's profile picture
Well I am about to do my 3rd load - first I did speed60, than a normal cycle and tonight I plan on using Auto. This is not exactly a Bob load but it 2 days of dishes the plastic piece and the bowl with red sauce on it was left from yesterday pasta dish so that dried 24 hours! Today I made chicken and rice with vegetables and advacado. The chicken I made in my Advantium oven in the corningware dish that had dried on. The rest of the stuff was loaded as seen in the pictures. So far I have been Happy :) lets see what the new results bring!
I am happy to take any advice on loading - I am new to using a silver ware 3rd rack!
But I am getting more used to it!

3rd rack

I find that large utensils like spoons for sauce do best on the second rack. The jet from above the third rack is what really cleans the dishes there, not the second rack spray arm. I would have put that spoon on the middle of the second rack. Silverware and small utensils are best up there. I alternate every other tine just as you have. It is comical to see how little of dishes you have in your machine. Mine is always bulging at the seams! Still performs great too! One little note, the Heavy cycle does not alternate racks during the wash phase when heating up to 150°F. Not sure why. So if you have heavy soil on the second rack as well, Auto is your to go to. Just a weird quirk! Enjoy!

3rd Rack

chachp's profile picture

I love the third rack in mine.  I had removed the silverware basket and was putting silverware up top.  My husband hates the silverware on top.  He thinks it's too tedious to have to put each piece in its place.  That's just how he is, he's not a fan of details, EVER.  Bless his soul, he loves to help out and frequently does dishes.  Given I didn't want to give him any reason to stop helping with dishes, I put the silverware basket back in the bottom at his request.  Now he can jam everything into one compartment only for me to adjust before running.

Sometimes in life we make these little compromises to get what we want in the end.  This was one of them and well worth it.

So far I am still adjusting to the silverware tray on top. I didn't think I would like it but the more I am using it the more I am liking it. It takes some time to get used to - I have only done 3 loads so far and I probably wont be using the DW for a few more days now! So time will tell!

Pete

Glad it is performing up to your expectations! I find that cascade is FAR too sudsy and I have switched to Finish Quantum and never looked back. How did your cutting board turn out? Mine always have a faint tinge of color left when cutting vegetables and fruits with lots of chlorophyll or other dye like substances. The second run through does the trick.

The cutting board came out spotless it had dried on avocado on it - I had been using finish Quantum in my GE but since they switched to that 2 part pack it got caught in the dispenser twice so I switched back to cascade! I am just starting this new package of cascade which seems to work well. I may go back to Finish when I use the cascade up!

Thee Finish Quantum 2-part pack is most likely designed to take advantage of the detergent tray dispensing method considering the gradual breakdown of the components over the main wash phase time period.

I don't know why they went to that 2 part packet - I just find it annoying that's it is split like that!

Detergent tray

The little plastic piece that acts somewhat like a handle of the second rack, I actually removed. I find that the detergent dissolves MUCH quicker when it goes to the bottom of the tub and is mixed up by the turbulence.

Hmmm I never realized the tab falls into that handle tray? Why ever would they have designed it that way.

The Heavy cycle

appnut's profile picture

Lakewebsterkid, you say the machine doesn't alternate levels when heating the water to 150 degrees during the main wash phase.  So it only scrubs the lower rack during that time.  Does it begin spraying to top rack once the water heating delay is finished?  Or does it just spray the bottom rack only during the entire main wash phase.

It may only be spraying the bottom rack during water heating to protect glassware.

Bosch

The handle is to ‘help’ dissolve the detergent. But I don’t think it dissolves fast enough there.

I’m not sure. I have never hear it alternate once the detergent is dropped in. Probably to makes sure the bottom rack is as clean as possible?

Speed60 Alternating Spray Arms

chachp's profile picture

I have always wondered if the arms alternate on the Speed60 or if they all go at the same time.  It seems to me it uses a little more water and it really sounds like all three are going at the same time on the 60 minutes.  Does anyone know?

Arms Alternating!

peteski50's profile picture
I used the speed60 cycle the first time I ran the unit and it does sound like the arms are alternating! I used normal once and Auto twice and the arms will alternate but at a certain point it seems like they are all running at the same time? It is hard to tell. I still have to try the heavy cycle!

Post# 1044337 , Reply# 30   9/9/2019 at 18:08 (1,684 days old) by henene4 (Heidenheim a.d. Brenz (Germany))

I'm not entirely sure actually, but it is perfectly possible this design has the possibility to run all arms at once.

The tray is actually so that the detergent dissolves faster in a low water level cycle.
On most cycle, the water level is far below where the tab would fall without a tray.
In the tray it gets sprayed every time the top arm rotates once and gets hit from every direction basicly.

Now I know that the EU equivalent to heavy does prefer the bottom basket.
Idea is more cleaning action there.

But all cycles do use the middle arm during the first portion of heating to dissolve the detergent.

You guys could be mistakeing higher spray pressures for all arms going at once.

Keep in mind that any machine should have the EcoSilence drive which is variable speed and most cycles do change spray pressure several times through out a cycle.

Mine has the 30 min express cycle. I can't really tell if it's alternating on any cycle but on the Express cycle the machine definitely sounds louder like it's washing at high pressure
